
- With a soft flame from a propane or oxy-acetylene torch, carefully heat the top of the exterior lock cover. Using pliers, gently twist the cover loose and slide it off the inner sleeve. The cover is held in place with a retaining compound that deactivates when heated.
- Clean excess compound from sleeve and cover with emery cloth or sand paper.
- Remove the 3-48 set screw from the L shaped slot with a hex key.
- Remove the two machine screws from the top and bottom of the sleeve.
- Remove lock mechanism from sleeve and install new lock according to diagram reversing above procedures.
- To reinstall the 3-48 set screw, insert key in lock and turn right 1/8” turn. Pull back nylon washer with awl or small punch to expose the threaded hole in the lock cylinder.
- The lock cover may be retained with retaining compound or plumbers solder.
Note: For round units, first secure handle from covering the lock by using wire or string to hold it back or inserting a small block inside cabinet at inspection plate.
